Coasters etc... Sottobicchieri etc...

I promised to post some of my attempts at quilting and here they are. In the past few years I have been collecting books on quilt blocks, which I find fascinating. Particularly, it is the technique that fascinates me, the different ways small parts are assembled to create a design. It is not just a matter of sewing pieces together, as I initially thought. It's more complex and more intriguing than that actually, and I am really enjoying it. I made one as a pot-holder, and a set of two to use as coasters. I am so pleased with the results. I am not 100% sure as to the blocks' names, as they seem to change according to books. Anyhow, the elaborate star pattern I chose for this pot-holder is Duck Tracks, while the simple design for the coasters is a variation of the diamond in a square. I just adore them.

Avevo promesso un post sui miei tentativi con il patchwork ed eccoli qui. Negli ultimi anni ho collezionato una lunga serie di libri sul quilting, una tecnica che trovo affascinante. E' proprio la tecnica che mi intriga, le tante modalità con cui le minuscole parti vengono assemblate per creare un motivo. Non si tratta semplicemente di cucire insieme i pezzi, come ingenuamente pensavo. È un lavoro molto più complesso e più curioso, e davvero divertente. Ho usato uno di questi blocchi per fare una presina e altri due per una coppia di sottobicchieri. Sono molto soddisfatta dei risultati. Non sono sicura al 100% dei nomi dei blocchi, che sembrano cambiare da un libro all'altro. In teoria, il motivo a stella per la presina è Duck Tracks, mentre il design più semplice e lineare usato per i sottobicchieri è una variante del tradizionale 'diamante in un quadrato'. Mi piacciono moltissimo.
